The event features the work of 21 contemporary practitioners, comprised in an exhibition of visual art, performance, music, film and sound work. The historic Hospitalfield House and its grounds will host a wide range of practices from painting to experimental sound work, providing a significant and challenging context in which to exhibit contemporary art; the house and its cultural and architectural heritage acting as a catalyst for many of the artists. Hospitalfield House has also facilitated a number of residencies and supported the production of site-specific works in advance of the event. These will combine with the new works from the international and nationally selected artists, including: installed-sculpture, film, print, installation and performance. Your Words and My Mouth exhibits new work from all artists and champions the results of a number of first time collaborations. Artists showing works produced while in residence are: Neil Clements, Craig Coulthard, Sam Kennedy, Catherine Street. A commissioned edition of screenprints by David Sherry has also been produced and Swedish artist Karl-Jonas (Blood Music) will launch his new album, followed by a live set with guest musicians. Other exhibited works and performances include a new installed-audio-piece by Ilana Halperin from the ongoing project 'Toward Heilprin Land', and the unique opportunity to hear renowned storyteller Duncan Williamson and the acclaimed Scottish musician Alasdair Roberts. The history of Hospitalfield's substantial cultural links provides a powerful backdrop to the works, which though not exclusively site-specific, invite new interpretations when viewed in this context. Your Words and My Mouth is a curatorial collaboration betwen Dundee Contemporary Arts, University of Dundee Exhibitions Department, Generator Projects, Bad Bad Boys Club and Hospitalfield; the first large-scale collaboration between these Dundee-based curators. |
